Social Impact

“We hear you and we are here for you”

Many people have been impacted in various ways and to VARYING extents by the DESTRUCTION of our community, gelorup, by the Southern bunbury outer ring road. Please know that there are people willing to help you through challenges you are facing.

The kind hearted, John Sherwood along and Joshua Ledger have set up a helpline of counsellors for Friends who have been impacted by the recent destruction of the Gelorup bushlands.

Here is a list of voluntary counsellors to contact for the support you require.

Marilyn 0400 745 540

Carl 0434 916 700

Wendy 0400 321 457

Josh 0427 539 198

Please note that anyone can, through their GP, request a referral for psychological and counselling support for a Mental Health plan, or through their employer EAP services, however, do feel free to call these wonderful people listed above who are offering their support.

AFTER MANY MONTHS OF WAITING FOR THE SOCIAL IMPACT STUDY, IT WAS RELEASED LATE IN FEBRUARY AND WAS BASED ON DATA FROM SEPTEMBER 2019, HENCE IT IS ALREADY OUTDATED!

Directly Affected

• As far as we know about 33 properties are directly affected with land resumptions.

• 5 homes are also being resumed at the present time without State or Federal environmental approval for the project to proceed.

• Those directly affected have been constantly hassled by land valuers to obtain their land. They have been offered sapling trees to compensate for loss of land as a carbon offset plan.

• MRWA have a rolling plan, gradually acquiring land and homes on an individual basis, leaving land owners confused, upset and very unsure of their future.

Indirectly Affected

• Roads are proposed to be blocked, restricting access in and out of Gelorup and Stratham.

• Many new access roads are proposed for construction due to severance of existing roads.  To accommodate these new roads more land is being acquired using taxpayers money and without State and Federal environmental approval.

• As a result of these road blockages and access roads, a longer journey for locals to get out of the suburb will be necessary.

• Noise from trucks and cars will be significantly increased.

• Main Roads are yet to confirm what their plans for mitigation of noise levels will be.

• Walls have been discussed for the end of Woods Road section, seedlings for the rest of the Corridor.

• There are significant concerns regarding fire and the lack of exit routes once roads are blocked off.
